our Christus Rex

read aloud
Most Roman Catholic churches have a "crucifix", Jesus crucified on the cross. Most Episcopal Churches do not have a crucifix; they may have an empty "red" Cross, a "gold" Cross (our risen Lord) or a Christus Rex. Christus Rex, or Christ the King, depicts our risen Lord, usually on a gold Cross.

"We have such a high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens",
Hebrews 8:1

Just to give a few examples of Jesus being referred to as "king":
  • Where is the Child who has been born king of the Jews?
    Matthew 2:2

  • ... Look, your king is coming to you
    Matthew 21:5, John 12:15

  • Are you the King of the Jews?
    Matthew 27:11, Mark 15:2, Luke 23:3, John 18:33

  • This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.
    Matthew 27:37, Mark 15:26, Luke 23:38, John 19:19

  • To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.
    1 Timothy 1:17

  • our Lord Jesus Christ, he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords.
    1 Timothy 6:14-15
referring to Jesus and quoted from Deuteronomy 10:17
